Introduction
The Structural Engineering research group is one of the largest and strongest group in ITB. It has 19 highly qualified staff members (all are Ph.D. holders), comprising of 5 professors, 7 associate professors and 7 assistant professors. All staff members have qualified postgraduate level from leading Universities in the United States, France, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Indonesia and they have a wide range of teaching and research experiences at home and abroad.
The staff members are actively engaged in research either in a supervisory capacity at undergraduate and postgraduate levels or as research partners in sponsored research projects, funded through national research councils, ITB research funds or industries.
Each of the group members has also established links with industries through various research projects and also through the wide range of consultancy assignments undertaken for various major construction projects in Indonesia such as Cipularang Toll Road, Jakarta Monorail, Suramadu Bridge, Sumatera-Java Link ect. Some of the staff members are in fact the leading structural engineering experts of the country with wide range of experiences and are certified professional engineers. Some of the members also serve as the assessors for professional engineer certification in the country.
The Structural Engineering Research group is also responsible for developing and conducting various courses related to the field of structural engineering, both in the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. This activity involves lectures, laboratories, and design/research projects.
The group also contributes to the continuing professional development of the practicing structural engineers by conducting short courses, together with the professional association of Structural Engineers, on specialized / design topics. Including in this activity is the disseminations of current Indonesian loading and design codes to construction society.
